A great way for you to make some extra money is by babysitting. In order to be a great babysitter there are a few things that you need to know.
Children are unpredictable so the most important job you will have is to keep them safe. Parents need to feel confident that you can handle any situation that comes up appropriately. Be sure you have an emergency phone number just in case.
Your job does not only require you to watch children but in most cases you will need to engage them in an activity. You should have a bag of activities that are age appropriate. Some toys and activities are not safe for small children. You need to know what to look out for when designing an activity. Toys with small parts or sharp edges are not good for babies and children under 3. Babies use their mouths to explore things in their world and anything that can be a choking hazard must be kept away from them.
Toddlers are active and want to be up and moving. Dancing and music are a favorite activity. Using puppets or reading to them may keep them occupied for short periods of time so don't be discouraged if they lose interest quickly. School age kids want to engage in activities like board games or simple card games. Keep television watching to a minimum but an afternoon movie made for kids might be a way to spend time together.
Let's create a list of questions that you will want to ask parents before you take a job.
